Game Systems

Game Systems make up the rules and boundaries of the tabletop game being played. While systems describe the rules of what actions and abilities guide the gameplay, they also dictate the type of genre and setting. For instance, a tabletop RPG can bring players through the most fantastic fantasy landscapes, cut-throat dystopian worlds, or horrifying urban settings.

Alchemy supports the following systems with more constantly being added with native support in the future.

Supported Systems

Fifth Edition

A Fantasy TTRPG to be used for plating the Fifth Edition of the Dungeons & Dragons RPG

Pirate Borg

A scurvy ridden, rules light, art heavy RPG based on Mörk Borg. Inspired by history, fantasy, horror, & rum.

Custom

A customizable system within Alchemy that allows players to design and play TTRPG systems not natively supported in the platform.

In addition to all natively supported game systems in Alchemy, Custom Games allows players to define their own relevant attributes in order to run games using systems that may not yet be natively supported in the Alchemy platform.

Quickstart Games

When creating a game, players will be presented with a modal with two tabs: 'Quickstart' and 'Custom.'

Creating a Game - Quickstart Game Modal

Quickstart games will allow a player to input the title of the game and designate the system being played. From there, modules can be toggled to be included in the game. The modules presented are either specifically flagged for the selected system or are systemless modules (modules that can be used with any system such as a map or music pack).

Modules can be toggled by clicking the slider icon at the bottom of each module's image. Once selected, the player will be presented with the total number of scenes being added from all of the selected modules. The player can then click the floating action button (FAB) to finish creating the new game and once loaded, they will see all of the available scenes, notes, handouts, and other information from the modules they selected.

Custom Games

When creating a game, instead of creating a game using the 'Quickstart' tab, a player can leverage the 'Custom' tab as well.

Creating a Game - Custom Game Modal

Similar to quickstart games, a player can input the game's title and specify the system being used. From there, specific universes for the system selected will be present along with all systemless universes created or owned by the player.

The player can click the floating action button (FAB) to finish creating the new game and once loaded, they will see all of the available scenes, notes, handouts, and other information from the universes they selected.

Difference Between Universes & Modules

A big difference between Quickstart and Custom game creation is how players select modules in Quickstart games as opposed to when they select universes while creating a Custom game.

Universes in Alchemy contain one of several modules within them. For instance, the Lore of Aetherra universe contains The Lost Druid and Novarail modules. When creating a custom game, you would activate both modules (the entire universe). If creating a quickstart game instead, you can choose which specific modules to activate.

Summoning Your Party

Once your game has been created. The modal to summon the party will be presented.

All of the information to bring players into a new game can be found in our Inviting Players & Joining Games article.

Additional Settings

Once players have been invited, the gamemaster can modify the final settings for the game. To start, the gamemaster can click the small gear icon to the left of the floating action button and select 'Edit Game' to be presented with a new modal to change several of the game's settings.

Field

Description

NAME

Input a name for this game that will be displayed to players in the thumbnail when navigating to the game in Alchemy. The name can be edited at any time. If a game crosses multiple campaigns, the gamemaster can change these details so game scenes and characters don't need to be moved to another game if they were not directly created in a universe.

DESCRIPTION

Input a description of the game being played. This could highlight high-level story details and tease some questions that may be answered deeper into the story.

GAME ARTWORK

Visual artwork can be uploaded as the cover photo of a game. This artwork will appear in several modal headers as well as the thumbnail when navigating to the game in Alchemy.

SPECTATORS

This setting dictates whether a game will be present in the 'Live Games' section when browsing the homepage in Alchemy.

AUTOMATIC INITIATIVE ROLLS

This setting is only visible in games using the Fifth Edition system and will automate creating a turn order when the gamemaster toggles initiative on the NPC Panel.

PRIVATE GM ROLLS

This setting will hide the Gamemaster's dice rolls in the Journal Panel from all players with a Player role in the game. When enabled, rolls made by a gamemaster will also remain hidden from other gamemasters.

SAVE JOURNAL MESSAGES

Enable this setting to save journal messages in the Journal Panel across multiple game sessions. This setting is not retroactive. This is enabled by default.

VOICE CHAT

Voice Chat settings enable players to mute or unmute their audio to use in a game for communications between each other. Toggling this on will allow for players to unmute their microphones (optionally) while toggling this off will keep voice chat off for all players. This is enabled by default.

VIDEO CHAT

Video Chat settings enable players to stream video from their webcam into a game. This is enabled by default.
